The silverback joined his family to get his short nap at Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. He settled next to his senior female and stretched himself to a comfortable position. The younger ones though were fully of energy and waiting to show off in front of the human visitors. They rollicked, jumped, bat their chest and wrestled with each other. One of the juveniles ran towards us with his bamboo stick...pole vault anyone? The older females glared at him. Another female hugged her little one closer, she didn't want him to be encouraged by this juvenile acrobatics. The juvenile now seemed to have second thoughts about playing with the visitors.

Members of this large family of Mountain Gorillas had three silverbacks. Around us were the calls of the family, crackling branches and the playful screams of the babies.This male had secured a good spot, a heap of juicy bamboos and seemed to be leisurely enjoying his morning meal.We stood mesmerized by his handsome face.
